Flexcut: Carving Tools

Flexcut makes innovative woodcarving tools. K Development, Inc. was contracted to help them with several projects. First being a molded handle for their line of interchangeable bladed carving tools. We were provided a wood master. K Development then digitized the wood handle and created a Pro/ENGINEER model (including some modifications that Flexcut wanted to the handle design). The final design is a two piece assembly that is ultra-sonically welded and then used as an insert in an overmolding process. This provides a nice solid shaped handle with soft-feel grips.

In another project for Flexcut, K Development assisted them with the development of the locking mechanisms for their Carvin’ Jack and Cabinet Jack products. These items needed to be precisely shaped and Metal Injection Molding (MIM) was the solution. The parts produced in this process were net shape and avoided several machining operations per part. It also allowed their logo to be molded directly in the metal parts.
